View of the Cathedral
I would have the photograph of the cathedral on a canvas size of 32 x 32 inch which is priced at £60 because the Cathedral isn't just a large building in Sheffield but it is an important place of Sheffield where people go to pray and it has a lot of meaning to members of the community.
This image displays the Sheffield Cathedral, which fits in with my theme of identity doing both new and old buildings as the Cathedral is old and the surroundings are new which is why the building is black & white denoting that it was built many years ago and the new surroundings are in colour which is what I wanted to achieve.
Hall of the town
For the photograph "Hall of the town" I would use a canvas size of 32 x 32 inch which would be priced at £60 because it's a large building with a lot of detail and has a lot of history of Sheffield with important members of the council going there each day.
This image is a display of the Sheffield Town Hall which fits in with my theme of identity because i'm doing both old and new buildings with the Town Hall fitting in with being an old building with lots of detail and it being different to other buildings. I have edited the photograph to display the building in black and white to denote that the building was being many years ago which is something that I aimed to achieve.
The Lost Building
The image is a display of an old abandoned building within Sheffield which fits in with my theme where I am displaying the identity of old and new buildings in Sheffield. This building I have edited to be in black and white effect as it connotes the building as being very old and neglected where it hasn't been used for many years and vandalised. With the building having branches coming out through windows, smashed windows, vandalism it allows me to achieve what I wanted to achieve which is showing that there are neglected buildings in Sheffield and not just all the old buildings are in good conditions.
High End Theatre
For the photograph of the "High End Theatre" I would use a canvas size of 32 x 32 inch which is priced at £60 as the building is very new with a lot of people visiting each day to watch a variety of shows from all over being presented to the people of Sheffield.
The image is a display of the Crucible theatre in Sheffield which fits in with my theme of identity as im displaying old and new buildings within Sheffield and the Crucible theatre is new and very popular with the atmosphere alive at night as well as during the day. This photograph allows me to achieve what I wanted to achieve because the new building has new surroundings around it which shows the difference to some buildings.
The Q-park Corner
I would display this image on a canvas size of 24 x 24 inch which is priced at £40 as the image is a portrait with it displaying one of the best designed car parks and it being one of a kind with another new building being displayed behind it.
The image is a display of the Cheesegrater in Sheffield which fits in with my theme of identity and what I aimed to achieve because the building is a new building within Sheffield where im doing old and new buildings. This photograph has allowed me to achieve what I wanted by not only showing the building itself but the surroundings around it.

Adobe Bridge CS6
I have imported my images into the program adobe bridge which allows me to see the dimensions, aperture, iso, what the exposure was like, what camera was used, what lens, if the flash was used of the photographs.

Sheffield crucible Theatre
The photograph is a picture of the Crucible in Sheffield which is a theatre and also a newly built building which fits in with my theme of old and modern buildings.
Although the image is usable and shows the surrounding area I will be retaking this photograph so that it is straight on with the building itself. In my plan I also said I would show a motion blur effect which would mean getting people in the photograph and then taking one again at night and show the difference of the building and the area.
When taking this photograph I used a wide angle with a landscape shot which allowed me to fit the building and the environment around the building in which also allowed me to frame the photograph. In the foreground of the image we can see many street lights and newly put down paving, in the background we can see the building itself and some sort of crane lift where it must have been having repairs.
I have used deep depth of field when taking this photograph to show the surroundings around the crucible like the paving and how it is new and has been put done not many years ago. I have framed the photograph by ending it towards both ends of the Crucible at each side.
I have used the rule of thirds to balance the photograph but i could improve on framing the image so that the image stops at the end of the building. I have used a standard kit lens when taking this photograph because I was able to capture the image in a number of spots without having to go up close and use a different camera lens.
When taking this image the settings on the camera were set to an ISO of 100, aperture 10.0 with a shutter speed of 1/125 which allowed the photograph to not be over exposed and puts it in focus.
The photograph shows the Sheffield Town Hall which fits in with my theme of identity because it's an old building. This isn't usable and I will be retaking this building as I haven't correctly balanced the image.
When taking this photograph I have used a wide angle shot with a standard kit lens and stood quite far back from the building to fit it all in and the environment around it to show that the building is old but the surroundings are new. I have taken the photograph as a landscape shot to show the surroundings within the photograph. In the foreground of the image you can see some steps leading towards the building with water leading to it. In the background you can see a water fountain just before the building itself with it being surrounded by other new buildings at the side of it. I have used deep depth of field when taking this photograph to capture the detail of surroundings and not just the building.
The photograph isn't balanced but one of my strengths was selecting the iso correctly when taking this photograph so not too much light entered when taking the photograph. One of my improvements could be on framing the photograph with one of the buildings for instance. As I could more quite far back and take the photograph it meant I didn't have to change the lens to a wide angle lens. The iso was correctly selected to show some sunlight on the building but not enough to ruin the photograph with too much light.
In photoshop I would change the colour of the building to make it black & white to connote that it's old and has been there for many years but the surroundings around the building are quite new so I would leave them in colour so that someone who is looking at the photograph can tell by the difference of colour.
Before taking this photograph I set the ISO to 100 with the aperture being set at 11.0 and shutter speed of 1/125 as the sun was shining quite heavily I made sure that the photo allowed some light in to add to the photograph but not enough to over expose the image.
This photograph shows the Cheesegrater in Sheffield which is a new building / car park which fits in with my theme because it's a new building and is very distinctive because of it's shape and detail. This photograph isn't usable because I haven't correctly balanced the photograph with the settings not being chosen properly.
When taking this photograph I used a wide angle shot with a standard kit lens because being able to be quite far back and take the photograph allowed me not to have to switch to a wide angle lens. I used a landscape shot when taking this photograph to try and show some of the surroundings around a new building. Within the foreground of the image you can see construction happening to a new building on the right of the photograph on the left you can see some passing cars and more work being done on a building before the Cheesegrater. In the background of the image you can see the building itself with a very tall building next to it. I have used deep depth of field when taking this photograph to show the detail of the building itself and it's surroundings to show the environment.
The photograph is balanced with everything fitting in the image and it being centred apart from the ISO which is something I could improve on as too much light entered the camera and when taking the photograph it was too bright.
One of my strengths was trying not to get too much of the construction and posters happening around the photograph within the photograph. The ISO affected the photograph by allowing too much light within the photograph. In photoshop I would change the colour of the sky and add an effect to the building to make them stand out more.
For the photograph of the cheesegrater I used an ISO of 100 with an aperture set to 5.6 and a shutter speed of 1/125 which resulted in the photograph being over exposed.
Summary: This photograph shows St. Paul's Cathedral in Sheffield which fits in with my theme of identity of old and new buildings because it is an old building. The image is useable because it has used the angle which I wanted it to be which is a wide angle and has a lot of the building within the image.
Techniques: This photograph I have taken is a landscape shot with a wide angle where I could get the environment and most on the building within the shot itself. In the foreground of the image you can see the newly constructed tiles around the Church to improve the outside of it with the background displaying the church itself and a tree at the side of it which a building showing just above the tree. I have used deep depth of field in this image to show the environment around the church with the framing aimed to be close to the tall part of the church on the left and the edge of the tree on the other side of the image.
Composition and rule of thirds: The photograph is balanced with the rule of thirds
What settings were used? The shutter speed I used when taking this image was 1/160 with the aperture being 13.0. The lens type was a standard kit lens with the iso being 100 which allowed the image to be in focus and have the correct exposure.
I have used these settings to control the exposure with the iso as I was working with natural light which is difficult to use
Summary: building 4
This photograph shows The Crucible in Sheffield which fits in with my theme of old and new buildings because the crucible is a new building. The image is useable because I was planning on taking the photograph of the crucible with people in the photograph so that I could show a motion blur as an effect and then take a picture of the crucible at night to show the difference and how alive it is at night with all the colours coming from the building.
The photograph I have taken is a landscape shot with a wide angle where I was aiming to get the surroundings and a few people into the photograph so that I could take another photograph and night and compare the liveliness of the building to day time. In the foreground of the image you can see newly put down tiles which are modern with an oldish looking bin and a street light. In the background you can see the building itself which is the crucible theatre in Sheffield. Using deep depth of field in this image allowed me to see the people walking in the image and the surroundings which are modern compared to some older buildings.
The photograph is balanced with the rule of thirds being used.
The shutter speed I used when taking this image was 1/125 with the aperture being set at 11.0 where I used a standard kit lens with a Cannon 600D with the iso set at 100 when taking this photograph which allowed me to control the natural light.
I used these settings to control the exposure of the light as the sun kept appearing and disappearing which caused the image to be too bright where I had to change the settings in order to work well with the natural light.
A.R Heat Abandoned building
The photograph is of an old building which is located on Sidney Street in Sheffield, the building is very old and abandoned which hasn't been used in a number of years. The building fits in with my theme of identity because it is showing an old building and it's surroundings, this image isn't usable and it something which I will be retaking.
I have used a wide angle when taking this photograph so that I could get the building and it’s environment within the photograph where I used a landscape shot to try and correctly frame the photography by using the end of the building behind and where the building ends on the left. In the foreground of the image you can see the road which hasn’t been kept in good condition where you can see on the right where it has been redone and we can also see that the lines have faded on the road which connote that it was done a long time ago. In the background we can see the background itself which is why I used deep depth of field when taking this photography so that you could see each part of the building like the missing letters, graffiti, branches through the window and boarded up windows.
I have used the rule of thirds to try and balance the photograph which shows one of my weaknesses on the photography which is that I took the photograph from an angle and not straight on with the photograph which is easy to see. When retaking the photograph I will make sure that I’m correctly in the centre of where the building is and not have the camera slanted in anyway. I have used a standard kit lens when taking this photograph as I could stand at a good distance away from the building and fit the image in without having to go up close and use a wide angle lens. In photoshop I plan on adding a black and white effect to the image to connote that it’s an old building and I will also be removing the lamppost which is irrelevant in the photograph.
When taking this image I have used a Canon 600D with an aperture of 5.0 with an ISO of 100 and a shutter speed of 1/200 which allowed me to control the natural lighting of the photograph and put it in focus.

Practise edit for image above
I will be retaking this image but framing it correctly and standing in line with the centre of the building which ensures that I don't take pictures of any cars in the car park and the image looks straight
Black & white > Red colour balance -40
Sheffield Town Hall
The photograph shows a picture of the Sheffield Town Hall which fits in with my theme of identity because it is an old building. The photograph is usable because the image is balanced without any pedestrians in the way of the building to distract your attention from the environment and the building itself.
For this photograph I have used a wide shot which I took as a landscape photograph to ensure that I could fit the environment on the photograph around the building to show that the building is old which will be in black and white but the environment around it is modern and has just been built / put there so I will leave it in colour to show that it's modern.
In the foreground of the image you can see that some newly put down paving with a water fountain and some stairs is just in front of it with the building being shown in the far background of the image. I have used deep depth of field when taking this photograph to show every detail around the building and itself. I have used the corner of the wall where is turns in to lead down the stairs as a frame to balance the photograph. I have tried to center the image with the building to balance the photograph. I could have improved the image by moving slightly to the right to better center the photograph.
When taking this photograph I used a standard kit lens which was useful because the image didn't require me to zoom in or going close to take a wide shot so I didn't need to change the camera lens.
When editing this photograph I plan to keep the foreground in colour to show that's in modern and has just been put down around the building but then for the building itself in the background I am going to make it black and white to dignify that it's old.
For this photograph I have used a Canon 600D with an ISO of 100 with an aperture of 8.0 and a shutter speed of 1/60 which allowed me to focus the image and control the lighting to make sure the exposure was correct.
Sheffield town hall
Will be using this image for my final image
The photograph is a picture of the Sheffield Town Hall which fits in with my theme because the building itself is old which represents old buildings. The image is usable because I have correctly centered and framed the image with only a few people caught in the photograph when I was taking it but because I took the photograph at quite a distance it isn't noticeable that they're there and especially their faces.
I have used a wide angle when taking this image so that I could fit the building in the photograph where I used a landscape shot which not only allowed me to fit the large building in from a distance but also correctly frame it. In the foreground of the image you can see some people, in the background you can see a few trees just before the building itself. I have used deep depth of field when taking the photograph to show the detail all around the building but care has been taken around the building as trees have been planted to improve the image. I have correctly framed the image by ending the photograph at either end of the building.
I have balanced the photograph using the rule of thirds with one of my strengths being that I have centered the image with the center of the building and framed it correctly. I have used a standard kit lens when taking this photograph as it was easy for me to take the photograph from a safe and easy distance.
In Photoshop I plan on adding an effect to the image which is black and white to represent that the building is old.
I used a Canon 600D when taking this image with the ISO set at 100 with an aperture of 9.0 with a shutter speed of 1/100 which ensured me that I could control the natural light especially with the sky above the building.
I have retaken this photograph but tried to take it straight on with the center of the church but with a standard kit lens which I couldn't get the whole of the church in the photograph because of things in the way behind me like tram shelters. I will be retaking this photograph but with a wide angle lens so that I can get the whole of the church in and not cut out the top of it.
The photograph fits in with my theme because my theme is identity of buildings in Sheffield by showing the change between old and new photographs. This building is of the Cathedral in Sheffield which is an old building and will be in black and white.
I have used a wide shot type for this photograph in order to get near enough the whole church in the photograph. I used landscape instead of portrait in order to get the environment around the Cathedral within the image to show that everything is new and has just been put in but the church like the paving. In the foreground you can see the newly put down paving with three posts, within the background you can see the Cathedral with a tree next to it. I have used deep depth of field to show the different between the old and new in the photograph where I framed it using near where the building ends and the tree.
The photograph is balanced with the rule of thirds where it is straight on from the center of the church but I can improve by making the camera more straight when taking the photograph.
When taking a picture of the Cathedral I used a Canon 600D with the ISO set at 100 with an aperture of 8.0 and a shutter speed of 1/60. These settings allowed me to control the lighting especially with it being very dark at that time of the day.
When taking a picture of the Cathedral I used a Canon 600D with the ISO set at 100 with an aperture of 8.0 and a shutter speed of 1/60. These settings allowed me to control the lighting especially with it being very dark at that time of the day.
A.R HEATH abandoned building
I have retaken the photograph again since last time and correctly fitted the frame in but I need to correctly center the photograph.
The photograph shows an old abandoned building which is on Sidney Street which fits in with my theme because it's the identity of old and modern buildings in Sheffield. This building is very old and run down which is why I have chosen to do it, this image isn't usable as I haven't correctly centered the image.
I have used a wide angle when taking this photograph to show the whole building and each bit of detail that it has and how it represents that the building is very old and run down. I took the photograph as a landscape shot so that I could fit the building in and correctly frame it.
In the image you can see clearly that the building hasn't been used in a long time because of the branches which are coming out of the window and nearly touching the pavement below, you can also see where the windows have been boarded up, windows smashed and where the building has been fenced off itself.
I have used deep depth of field when taking this photograph to show each part of the building like the old panel on the roof to the graffiti on the bottom and around the building. I have framed the image by using the sides of the building where it ends and positioning the bottom where the fence starts and goes up.
I have used rule of thirds to balance the photograph which something important in each part of the photograph but I haven't correctly centered the image which is something I can improve on. I have used a standard kit lens when taking this photograph as I could stand a good, safe distance from the building and correctly frame it without having to change the lens to fit the purpose of getting the whole image in the shot.
When editing this photograph I plan to change the colour of the building to black and white to represent that it's an old building and I also plan to use Photoshop to remove the lamppost in photograph as it has no relevance and is in the way of the building itself.
I used a Canon 600D when taking a picture of this building with the aperture set at 6.3 with an ISO of 100 and the shutter speed set at 1/50 which allowed me to control the natural light in the photograph as it was dark with a white sky and allowed me to focus the image.
Editing photographs for final pieces
I have edited this photograph using photoshop CS6 where my aim was to turn the colour of the image to black & white where it would fit in with my theme of showing this image as an old building which is abandoned. How I did this was by using the quick selection tool and selecting black and white above where the layers and changing the red saturation of the photograph to - 40 which made it black and white.
I have edited my photograph on photoshop CS6 where my aim was to edit the lampost which was in the middle of where the building was which was irrelevant and in the way of the detail of the building.
Sheffield town hall edit
I used the quick selection tool to select the whole image and went over to the right above the layers and chose the "black and white" and then edited the red saturation to -40
